The west road at and the public rights of way at Ravens Cragg and Beech Grove are now open. The Dam road remains closed to vehicles but open for use by cyclists and pedestrians. The Northern Lake District Distinctive Area is a mixture of upland limestone, high fell fringe, rugged high fell and upland valleys — from gently rolling improved farmland to the rounded mountain massifs of Skiddaw and Blencathra. Oak woodland is a distinctive landscape feature of the area. There are significant tracts of common land including the Buttermere, Brackenthwaite, Caldbeck and Uldale Commons. Keswick and smaller settlements lie in valleys containing several lakes: Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Thirlmere, Buttermere, Loweswater and Crummock Water. Thirlmere is significant as it is also a reservoir. The reservoir and surrounding valley is owned by United Utilities, a private water company, and still supplies over million litres of water a day to Manchester and parts of Cumbria and Lancashire.

Working with the Forestry Commission and the local community, two new bridges were built in Blengdale Forest, providing vital missing links to the network of footpaths and bridleways in the Forest. One of the bridges is over 60 feet long, and is the largest bridge ever installed by the National Park. Each one had to be specially designed and was prefabricated in steel sections small enough to be transported to this remote location, and bolted then together on site.
The bridges have opened up parts of the forest which were previously all but unreachable, and have provided a number of circular walk options.

In fact, for about 30 years, a lot of people went bankrupt because there was no easy way to pay off the loan. The lake was only ecologically neutral, with a mix of plants and predators like Everglioa and radishes. Many people who wanted to live in the lakes for a short time still did so after the depression, but the town and surrounding area had suffered some destruction, mostly by the steamboats. So, the only people who wanted to live in the lakes were hookers and married nice guys.
They didn’t really care what I did, but the simple things like taking care of money and caring about my girlfriend or getting reasonable exercise became trendy. I expected them to be honest about their love life, but like any small-minded society would sooner or later reject you. I knew what was going to happen when I was about to be married anand dating the man who would become my husband.
There would be a lot of pressure to carry on with our new life and save money, but life was boring once you got married. I was deeply involved in the local community and caretaker of caring and raising our son. I was emotionally involved in the planning of our marriage and its ups and downs. Now, life is a totally different train of thought, and alot of the women involved have never had kids since we were both growing out of marriages.

The Lake District National Park are pleased to announce that Cubby Construction Limited will be undertaking the work to create a the new multi-user trail between Keswick and Threlkeld along the old railway line. These works will hopefully start in the week commencing 11 February and will be completed by the end of March. Prior to removing the trees and other vegetation an ecologist will assess the area and a method of working will be prepared and used to mitigate disturbance to wildlife, including red squirrels, birds and bats.
These sections of the route must be closed during works to ensure that the health and safety of the public is protected. There will be some inconvenience and disruption due to restricted access along the current path — please observe on-site notices, safety barriers and look out for updates about access on our website. A detailed programme of the construction work to create the new trail is currently being prepared for the whole build period up to autumn Initial further activity on and adjacent to the trail will include the creation of site access routes and site storage compounds.
This type of work is expected to be rolled out from April onwards and may well include further restrictions to public access. Photo shows: key partners gathered at Brundholme last year to mark the funding announcement, along with some of the locals who are looking forward to the trail being reconnected.
